Never make a U-turn on expressways

Expressways are one-way. Never reverse or make U-turns on the main roadways or near tollgates even if you take a wrong turn or miss an exit. Also, be careful not to go in the wrong direction when returning to a main roadway from service and parking areas.

Entered expressway by mistake!

If you entered an expressway tollgate by mistake, please let staff know using the interphone located on the ticket machine at the tollgate entrance. You can go back by following instructions from tollgate staff.

Missed the exit by mistake!

If you missed your intended interchange, use the general lane at the tollgate and let staff know before exiting. You can go back by following instructions from tollgate staff. If you are using a toll adjustment machine, request assistance by "Call button (lever)".

Cannot go to your destination because of a road closure!

In cases where you cannot go to your destination because of road closure and wish to U-turn to go back to your departure tollgate, use the general lane at the tollgate you have to exit and let staff know before exiting). You can go back by following instructions from tollgate staff. If you are using a toll adjustment machine, request assistance by "Call button (lever)".

In addition, if you exit from a tollgate that was not where you departed from, it is necessary for you to pay tolls depending on your usage. If you use an ETC lane at the last tollgate after making a U-turn, the tollgate bar may not open so please use a lane that is staffed or where a toll adjustment machine is installed.

<Please note>

  1. Vehicles are coming in and out around tollgate areas. It is very dangerous to make a U-turn using your own judgment. Tollgate staff will instruct or guide you, so follow the instructions safely.
  2. Please note in advance that depending on the structure of the interchange etc. making a U-turn may not be possible.
  3. If you use an ETC lane at the last tollgate after making a U-turn, the tollgate bar may not open so please use a lane that is staffed or where a toll adjustment machine is installed.
