- The Economic Center of the Chubu Region
As the economic center of Japan's Chubu Region, Aichi Prefecture is home to Toyota and many other automobile-related companies, and the city of Nagoya is the heart of Aichi Prefecture. Historically, this area has produced many famous people, including Ieyasu Tokugawa, who founded the Edo Period government. Among the many tourist locations are Nagoya Castle, its five-story keep well known for the golden dragon-headed carp on the roof, and Atsuta Shrine, where a sword said to be one of the Three Sacred Treasures of Japan is kept. For food, many of the offerings of Aichi famously incorporate miso (savory soybean paste), such as udon noodles simmered in miso and deep-fried meat cutlets prepared with miso.
