- Matsumoto Castle and Kamikochi – Beauty in Every Season
Formerly named Shinshu, Nagano Prefecture hosted the eighteenth Winter Olympics in 1998. A popular tourist location, Nagano is home to Matsumoto Castle, one of the twelve extant castles in Japan. This castle displays colorful expressions throughout the seasons, particularly the pink of cherry blossoms in spring and brilliant colors in fall. Also of note is Kamikochi, located in Chubu-Sangaku National Park more than 1,500 meters in elevation. As demonstrated at the Winter Olympics, Nagano Prefecture also has many excellent ski resorts that are popular in winter.
