- The temple "Eigen-ji," which is the headquarters for the temples in the Eigen-ji sector of Rinzaishu, was built during the Kamakura period and prospered under the protection of the Ii, a Daimyo of Hikone. On the left side of the stone stairs of main road to the temple, there are the Jurokurakan, which are many stone figures of Buddha, beside the beautiful maple trees planted along the road. Eigen-ji is also famous for konnyaku and there is even a monument for a poem that says "The taste of konnyaku is like a little plum flower" written by the famous poet Basho.
